GENERAL SUMMARY:
The EMS Training Captain will serve as a mentor, role model, and educational resource to all employees. Under direct supervision of the Training Division Chief, the EMS Training Captain provides EMS training to employees, teaches in the classroom, provides education to the community, and is a liaison to the community colleges and educational institutions. The EMS Training Captain will demonstrate the ability to share his/her experience and knowledge in a non-intimidating manner in order to encourage the employees and students involved in departmental operations to support the highest standards in the industry. The EMS Training Captain understands the constant evolution of EMS professionals while remaining current with industry trends and improved methods of accomplishing quality patient care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & FUNCTIONS:

Schedule workshops, instructors, facilities and assist with course set up to support organizational training requirements

Registers qualified/approved workshop participants and maintains appropriate registration materials, rosters, and documents

Authors, produces, distributes maintains, and teaches as appropriate, instructional material required for course curriculum/workshops

In conjunction with Training and Agency Management staff, establishes annual training schedule based on organizational needs, attendee enrollment and makes adjustments in support of the Company mission.

Determines EMS training needs of the organization by keeping abreast of current industry related developments, researching availability of internal and external subject matter experts, course offerings, trends, and developmental opportunities.

Provides leadership, guidance, and training to fellow staff, students, and volunteers.

Ensures safe and proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies as they relate to EMS training.

In conjunction with EMS Management, serves as line approval for enrollment of EMS personnel in outside seminars and training.
QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
-
Possesses a bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline or ability to obtain within one year of hire.

Released Paramedic with Pender EMS & Fire, Inc., or ability to obtain release within 90 days of hire.

NCOEMS Level II Instructor or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Five or more years as a field Paramedic.

Certified Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Instructor or able to obtain within 6 months of hire.

Certified Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Instructor or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.

Certified Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (BLS) instructor or the ability to obtain it within 6 months of hire.

NAEMT Instructor certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Demonstrated ability to teach and educate both in the field and classroom on assorted topics.

Knowledge of NCEMS protocols, Pender EMS POLICIES, and EMS operations.
DESIRED:

Two or more years of experience in a similar role

Knowledge of planning and scheduling software and techniques

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite

Ability to set up, calibrate, and operate standard classroom equipment

Ability to develop training and instructional materials using a range of sources
-
Knowledge of general math and mathematical formulas as they apply to EMS functions and material.

Basic knowledge of inventory control techniques
-
Excellent oral and written communication skills
-
Ability to gather, analyze and report on pertinent data.

Knowledge of community education agencies and resources.

Ability to work extended hours including evenings and weekends and may be required to travel outside the district and county boundaries to attend meetings and training.
